For my Change the World Project, my brother and I went to Feed My Starving Children. We had to pack ingredients in a certain order in a Manna Pack bag. The order had to be first vitamins, second dry vegetables, third soy, and last rice. Then we had to weigh it to see if it had too much ingredients or too little amount of ingredients. Next, we had to seal the bag and put it in a box. After an hour and a half of doing that, we went into another room where we tried a sample of what we had made. The sample tasted fine, but it had no flavor. Finally, the Feed My Starving Children leaders announced the totals of what our group of volunteers had packed. We packed 53 boxes, which was 11,448 meals, that will feed 31 kids for a whole year! That costed $2,518.56. I am glad that I did this volunteer work because I helped a lot of kids, who were malnourished and even starving, to get food.

This is me and some of my friends that helped out at a food packing center. Called feed my starving children. We got to make food for people who need it. We also got the chance to donate to their cause so they can continue doing this. Me and my friends(and everyone else that was there) made enough food to support a child in a country for a year. It was an amazing experience.

Change the World Project- Harbor House

For my Change the World project I volunteered at the Harbor house in Park Ridge. The Harbor house is an organization that provides housing to teenage girls who are homeless. Since my topic was homelessness this was a great organization to volunteer at. I was unable to see any of the girls from the organization because of confidentiality reasons, but I was able to spend a day volunteering at the office. I made a basket filled with books, products from Bath and body works, $60 giftcard for Domino's Pizza and more things I thought the girls would enjoy. My mom and I helped organize the donations people sent in, make welcome baskets for the girls, and write messages to them. It was a really great experience and I learned a lot about homelessness. I am definitely going to volunteer or donate again in the future because of what a great experience I had.

John's Change the World Project

On Thursday, May 28, my dad and I went to the West Deerfield Township Food Pantry for my Change the World Project.  My Change the World project is about hunger. I choose this topic because I know how much of a problem hunger is in our world.   The West Deerfield Township Food Pantry provides food to people in the Deerfield area who are struggling.  I talked to the supervisor of the pantry, and my dad and I sorted different types of food and put them where they belonged on the shelves.  We helped out there for about 45 minutes before they told us we had to leave because they were closing.  I felt really grateful and lucky for all that I have, when lots of people struggle just to have 3 meals a day.  I encourage everyone to go and learn about the food pantry because it was a good experience.
